Praise that the Thunders have arrived in Niger and are settling into their new surroundings and ministry. Praise that they received almost all of their luggage, but pray that their stroller would arrive soon. Praise for the relationships they have begun to build with neighbors who speak French. Pray for deepening relationships and wisdom for relating to those who speak mostly Zarma. Pray also for Zach as he begins teaching computers, works on IT issues and facilitates two internships at Sahel Academy.
Praise that Tyler is now flying solo and transporting medical personnel and missionaries of all types and nationalities around Niger. Pray that Tyler and the other SIMAIR pilots and mechanics will operate wisely and safely. Pray for wisdom for Jessica as she works in the SIM Niger office as administrative secretary and temporary Projects Coordinator during a time of many transitions and changes as a new director comes on board.
Praise that Justine has made good progress in language study, had some great spiritual conversations with friends and started treating a young boy who needs occupational therapy. Pray that she would continue to lean on the Lord as her source of all hope and joy when difficult things happen such as the unexpected death of a friend, the theft of her wallet and phone, or physical illness. Pray that the Word of God would take root in her language helper and other new friends.
Praise for the recent Fulani youth camp, organized by a national, where there were 21 new believers and 33 baptisms. Praise for a break for the translation team planned for this month. Pray that they will return refreshed to continue their work on a revision and community check of Isaiah and then begin the translation of Leviticus. Pray for safety for Jean and team members in all their travels. Pray also for additional doctors and directors with vision for the two Danja hospitals.
Praise for the support of the missionary family in Niger as Jana has gone through a medical challenge which included surgery. Praise that Nate’s parents have come to support the family during the recovery process. Nate writes, “Less than a month after returning to Niger, we have lived through a medical crisis that trumps those we survived in the past. . . . Pray for us to have faith and grace to engage the spiritual challenges that suffering brings, and to live faithfully through a dark time.”
Praise for Beth’s uncomplicated return to Niger July 5 from home assignment. Pray as she focuses on welcoming 13 new staff members coming to Sahel Academy as they adjust to new people, places, and languages. Pray they will be welcomed well and become part of a community seeking the Lord together. As the new school year begins, pray for staff and students, and for the Holy Spirit’s guidance for Beth in her member care role. Pray also for the critical need of a Director and Secondary School Principal for the academy.
Praise for the Hoyts’ medical work at Galmi Hospital and for the many opportunities they are having to share the love of the Lord with their patients. Pray for Steve as he makes weekly visits with a translator to villages surrounding Galmi. Pray also for the people who have received SD cards with the New Testament in the local language for their phones – including one village chief. Pray also for perseverance and wisdom for Katie as she prepares for her Ob/Gyn oral board exam to be taken next year.
Praise that Jeremy and Beki are anticipating their upcoming return to Niger. Pray for the remaining support to come in so that they will be cleared to leave. Pray for sweet goodbyes and safety on the road as they visit family before their return planned for the first week of September. Pray that God will give them grace for the transition back to Niger with a new baby.
Praise that the Rideouts have completed their home assignment and returned to Niger. Praise that they have returned refreshed in soul, mind, and body and ready for the new adventures God has planned for them. Pray for them as they reconnect with friends and seek to share Jesus with those who cross their path. Pray that God would equip them to transition well and adjust to a new field director, SIMAIR and office teammates.
