Praise for the first public baptism in the village where the Nguntas minister. Pray that the new believers would grow in their faith and be bold in sharing it with others. Praise for the positive response to and growth of the feeding ministry to local children, street boys and the homeless in the city. Praise that the exploration trip for ministry opportunities in a new area went well. Pray for workers with creativity to engage this under-reached people group.
Praise that the Nguntas’ Transformational Leadership Course (TLC) went well, and that those present benefited greatly and have promised to mobilize others. Pray for wisdom and funds to implement the revised curriculum this year. Praise that the new ministry of feeding homeless teens and children has begun and is growing, with more than 700 being fed weekly. Pray for other ministry possibilities such as a children’s club, sports and camping ministries, etc. Pray as well for safety and effectiveness in the survey and vision trip among the Moor people in February. Pray also for Carol who is in the US to assist her seriously-ill brother.
Praise for safety in over 4000 miles of travel while Sherry has been on home assignment, and for several ministry training opportunities she has attended to further equip her for her service in Mali where she is scheduled to return on June 30. Pray that the $700 a month deficit in her support, plus $3000 for equipment and ministry-related materials, will come in before this date. Pray for the individuals who have been laboring for the Lord there in the absence of missionaries. Pray also that the new believers in several communities will remain faithful to the Lord in spite of the many challenges they face.
Praise for the hospitality and refreshment the Nguntas are experiencing from supporters on home assignment. Pray for them in Michigan through April and for additional supporters, especially for a one-time need of $11,700 to return to Mali. Praise for Joshua’s visit home to Nigeria where he ministered at a church he had planted and saw 35 people come to Christ. Praise that they were able to attend a SIM Leadership Mentoring Conference in Greece, and pray as they grow through the mentoring experience during the next two years. Pray for Carol’s brother whose health issue could require a delay in their return to Mali.
Praise for the first baptism of nine believers in one village outreach. Pray they will be strong in faith and that others will follow. Praise that the Lord has provided a missionary couple who have agreed to serve the congregation while Nguntas are now on their nine-month home assignment. Praise that a national missionary couple from Burkina Faso is now stationed in a village where the community has given land for a church building and God is establishing his church. Pray for a good transition for their family. Pray for rest, health, sharing opportunities and additional funding for Nguntas on home assignment.
Praise for nine individuals who were baptized recently in one village, and pray that they will grow in the Lord. Praise also that another mission organization is partnering with SIM to drill wells in two villages, and that the cost of flying in needed equipment was reduced from $10,000 to $3000! Pray for two national missionary families who will be serving the ministries during the home assignments of the SIM Mali missionaries. Pray for Sherry as she connects with her supporters while here and also works on a new curriculum for Trainer of Trainers workshops to be used upon her return.
Praise that the first installment of “training of trainers” will be finished the end of May. Praise that Sherry was able to train two women regarding medical and preventative protocols, as well as biblical counseling principles and Bible story telling techniques. Praise that they have already had positive results. Pray for continued positive results as Sherry and a coworker visit a village to provide healthcare, Bible story telling on Saturday afternoons, prayer in the evening and then worship with believers on Sunday. Praise as well for her opportunity to teach and give orality presentations at a weeklong Bible camp in another village where five children trusted Christ and seven adults were baptized.
Praise for the inspiration and ability Sherry has had to prepare educational materials on the topics of basic hygiene, basic nutrition, Bible storytelling and the prevention and treatment of malaria. Praise also for the excitement with which church leaders have responded to having these tools for outreach in their areas. Pray for her as she begins her “training of trainers” work in January. Praise also for the evangelism and church planting work that is ongoing in Mali, and pray that God will add others to the team in order to take advantage of the invitations and opportunities they have before them.
Praise that when Joshua and his co-worker arrived by truck at a village, they were met by a crowd of young men eager to use the soccer ball they had brought. Praise also that during a storm many gathered under the roof of a nearby building and discussed at length the biblical story of Lazarus. Pray that soon there would be group worship in that village, and for workers who can go to many other villages that are inviting them. Since the need of the church in Mali is for leadership, pray for the second module of the Transformational Leadership Course scheduled for February.
