FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
ABOUT GIVING TO SIM
GENERAL QUESTIONS
What is the difference between a Support Account and Ministry Account
Support accounts provide for a SIM worker’s salary, medical insurance, retirement, home assignment travel, administrative costs, and basic living needs. We use this account to keep our workers serving in ministry.
Ministry accounts provide for a worker’s ministry-related expenses. This account is separate from the worker’s regular support account.
Some (not all) of our workers include monthly ministry expenses as another line item in their monthly support budget. This is the case if you see an option to give only to your SIM worker’s support account. By giving to their support account, you can rest assured that they will have funds available for ministry activities.

Can I try out the online giving service with a one-time gift?
Yes. You may try online giving by selecting “this is a one-time donation” in the Gift Type drop down box. Click here to see how easy and efficient the process really is.
Will I receive a tax statement for my gift?
Each online, one-time gift generates an e-receipt. You will receive your receipt by email very soon after giving your gift online. Each e-receipt gives your year-to-date giving total. You will also receive a Year-End Giving Statement listing all of your gifts.
Recurring monthly and quarterly gifts are not receipted; however, a Year-End Giving Statement will be sent for tax purposes.
What is SIM’s tax status?
The U.S. office of SIM is legally known as “SIM USA Incorporated.” We are recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a Tax-Exempt Nonprofit Religious Corporation. Our IRS tax identification number is 22-1936391.
How does SIM Handle my gift?
All gifts to approved SIM projects and ministry workers are used as requested by the donor, with the understanding that when the need has been met or the worker’s status changes, the gift will then be applied where needed most at the discretion of SIM USA, preferably to a similar project or worker. In keeping with IRS guidelines, SIM USA has complete control and administration over the use of tax-deductible donations received for ministries within SIM. Learn more about how your gift is used by clicking here.
How is SIM committed to financial integrity?
SIM has annual internal and external audits. We also have a reputable board of directors of whom the majority are not members of SIM. In addition, we are members of Missio Nexus and the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA). Learn more about SIM’s financial accountability.

I want to mail in a check rather than give online. What should I do?
Our online giving process is very safe and secure, but we understand that not everyone is comfortable with making a donation online. If you would rather give by check, select one of the downloadable giving forms, fill it out, and mail along with your check. Checks should be made payable to SIM USA and mailed to:

Is my gift to a SIM ministry worker tax-deductible?
Gifts for missionary accounts are tax-deductible according to Peace vs. IRS, 43 TC 1, Acq. CB1965-2, 6.
What happens to my gift if my supported worker’s status changes or my project is fully funded?
All gifts to approved SIM projects and workers are used as requested by the donor, with the understanding that when the need has been met or the worker’s status changes, the gift will then be applied where needed most at the discretion of SIM USA, preferably to a similar project or worker. In keeping with IRS guidelines, SIM USA has complete control and administration over the use of tax-deductible donations received for ministries within SIM.
