A Note from Inside
“In 20 years of competitive swimming, I only had one Christian coach, but that one coach profoundly impacted my life. When someone cares about you—especially when it’s someone you trust, like a coach—that person has a huge opportunity to share the gospel in words and actions.
“Sports Friends, a ministry of SIM, partners with local churches in Africa, Asia, and the Americas to find and train coaches to mentor youth in sports, life, and faith. We currently have about 10,000 coaches ministering to more than 250,000 youth, but we estimate that we are reaching close to 1 million people through family and community connections.
“One thing I love about our Sports Friends staff is their deep commitment to the process of discipleship. Our coaches are leading young people into a relationship with Jesus and walking alongside them even after they become Christians, often for years. It’s not just about evangelism. It’s about making a long-term investment in people.”

“And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!'” — Romans 10:15 (NIV)
At age 11, after accepting Jesus at a SIM Sports Friends camp, David returned home and began telling his family and neighbors about his newfound faith.
As more and more people heard David’s testimony, the number of believers in the village grew. Before long, the Lord worked through him to build a church of more than 70 people.
David, now 17, is a Sports Friends coach. And his dreams are only just beginning to flourish. “I want to be a pastor so that I can preach in my community,” he says. “I have a passion that the whole world would know God’s Word.”
