Praise that the James family found new and adequate housing when their previous landlord decided to sell the house they had been living in. Pray for them as the ministries with which they are involved start up again in March – Equipping Servants for Andrew and Bible studies for both. Pray for their children as they start the new school year at the same time. Pray also for guidance for them as they continue to move toward church planting and hold meetings with their team every month to plan and pray towards that end.
Praise for the recent SIM Uruguay team retreat, and that the team is growing in numbers and in depth, since four new families and three singles have come in the last three years. Praise for a fun Culture Café Night outreach attended by people from all over the city, some who had never been in a church before. Pray for wisdom to know when and how to have more nights of outreach and to follow-up with those who come. Pray for the church leadership during this busy season and for wisdom, tact and gentleness as Nate has necessary but difficult conversations with some people in the church.
Praise for the completion of the James’ first year in Uruguay, for their children’s good adjustment to school, and for friends the family has with both believers and non-believers. Pray for the weekly Bible studies they hold – Angie with women, and both of them with unbelievers at Paso Carrasco. Pray that they will come to faith. Pray for an encouraging Bible study that has started in another location that could grow into a church plant. Pray for Andrew as he teaches an Equipping Servants class training a new generation of leaders who love the Lord and are committed to His Word.
Praise for Nate’s brief trip home to the US to officiate at his sister’s wedding, and for the excitement, he discovered within himself to return to his ministry in Uruguay. Pray that God will use him at Christ Church (an international church) during a time of significant change in personnel as students, interns and embassy staff end their semesters or terms and begin to move. Pray that new, talented volunteers would emerge, and pray for the growth of the leaders, as well as Nate, as he takes on more responsibility. Pray also for the salvation of several friends with whom he has good conversations about the Lord.
Praise that the family is settling into life in Uruguay, and pray for a continued good adjustment for both the children and the parents. Praise also for the many opportunities for ministry the Lord is bringing to them. Praise that Andrew has been introducing Bible stories and sharing the gospel with young people in Paso Carrasco. Pray that they will continue to come to the meetings and will come to saving faith in Christ about whom they previously had known nothing. Pray also that God would give the Jameses wisdom as they seek His will regarding where, how, and when to start church-planting.
Praise for Nate’s successful transition from language study in Costa Rica to Uruguay and for the first few exciting and difficult weeks. Pray for him as he continues getting settled. Praise that the Lord has already brought people into his life who seek meaningful conversations about life and faith. Pray as each week he joins with La Ruta, a downtown ministry to college students, for one student who is seeking, though still skeptical, and for Nate as he answers difficult questions in Spanish. Pray also for another contact from nearby Argentina who wants to continue conversing about Christianity.
Praise for improving health for Rosie, and pray for the safe delivery of a baby boy around the first of August. Pray for the Petersons as they complete their home assignment and seek to determine if they should then move to Spain to minister there, since national leaders have been raised up to take their place in Uruguay. Pray that their final decision can be made by June, and also that a large church in North Carolina will continue to support them if they make this change.
Praise that after two months in Montevideo, Andrew and Angie and family are settled into a condo, which gives them many opportunities to interact with neighbors and build relationships. Pray that God will use these relationships to further the gospel. Pray for Andrew as he works with the SIM team leader for Uruguay to plan for an “Equipping Servants” program to begin in March to train up a younger generation (under 35) of leaders for the church. Pray also for strength and wisdom as they become more involved in Bible studies, church meetings, and outreach in the months ahead.
Praise that in early December before beginning home assignment God enabled Josh and Rosy to be involved in extensive ministry, including a work day event in a needy neighborhood and the distribution of Christmas bags to 42 kids in another one near their church. Praise for a couple who has recently come to Christ. Pray for a friend of Josh who has a strong desire to reach others for Christ and for the youth in their Sunday School classes to continue to grow in faith. Pray for God’s blessing on the Petersons’ home assignment and opportunity to continue missionary service.
