Pray for Michelle as she leads a group of short-termers on a ten-day mission trip to Thailand. Praise that all the logistics are in place, and pray that Michelle will have wisdom to lead this team well – the first she has handled by herself. Pray for the Sports Friends camp near the Burmese border where they will be ministering to around 120 youths in collaboration with a local church. Pray also that SF leaders will make time for the annual planning meetings to review their progress in 2016 and set goals for 2017. Pray for Michelle as she edits them.
SPORTS FRIENDS has found a unique way to share the love of Jesus Young people everywhere love sports. The ministry of Sports Friends taps into that common interest to share the love of Jesus Christ while building relationships that last. Working with local church leaders, Sports Friends develops Christ-centered sports programs in countries around the world. Children come to play—and hear the gospel at the same time. Michelle Palacio works with the Sports Friends support services team and travels to participate in sports camps. She especially appreciates the ministry’s spiritual emphasis. “Discipleship and the gospel are first and foremost,” she says. Praise that money has been raised to send 2750 kids to camp this summer! Pray for Camp Langano (Ethiopia), where for eight weeks over 800 youth will have the opportunity to experience the love of Christ. Praise for the recent signing of a new SF partnership in Peru, which will open the door for hundreds of new coaches to be trained. Pray for the Peru team members as they continue to cast vision and share with church leaders about this wonderful opportunity. Pray also for her as she prepares to take two teams to Thailand this fall.
Praise for the Sports Friends summer May CAMPaign to raise money to continue hosting camps in Asia and Africa. Pray that the goal to raise enough funds to send 3100 youth to camp will be met. Praise for a new denominational partnership in Peru with the potential to train over 1000 church leaders to use sports to reach out to youth in their communities. Pray for the Basic Trainings being held this month to equip new coaches. Pray also for Michelle as she takes some personal time to rest, connect with supporters and raise $743 more in monthly support before June 1.
Praise that over fifty Sports Friends leaders from all around the world have come to Chiang Mai, Thailand, for the second-ever Global Gathering. Pray for a great spirit of love, respect and unity as they meet together as a worldwide SF leadership team. Pray that all of those presenting and facilitating will be led by the Lord as they minister. Pray for ears to hear and hearts to receive all that the Lord has for each person attending. Pray also for safe and smooth travel to and from Thailand and around Chiang Mai during various activities and outings.

However, the last place Ben probably envisioned himself serving was the very place his training proved to be most valuable: in prison. Coach Ben was running a thriving youth soccer academy when some past ‘disagreements’ with the police disrupted his life. One morning, drugs were planted in Ben’s vegetables before he went to market to sell them. The police were tipped off, and, to the devastation of his family and community, the local coach was sentenced to six years imprisonment. Pray also for Michelle as she seeks to serve the Sports Friends family in the many countries where this ministry is operating.
Pray for Danny in this busy time as he finalizes end-of-year financial reports and participates in projections and planning for the new year. Praise for the expansion of Sports Friends into new areas of Africa — Tanzania, Senegal, and Niger – and pray for strength for Danny as he adds these countries to his accounting responsibilities. Praise that Carmen’s doctrinal thesis draft was accepted, and pray for ongoing checking and revisions until she can defend her thesis orally in April. Pray that God will open doors for her to use her education for His kingdom’s work.
