Praise for a renewed focus to reach the lost in northern Nigeria from the new ECWA (Evangelical Church Winning All) president. Pray for a large group of short-termers being taken to the north for a vision trip and village medical outreach June 27-July 1. Pray that some will become long-term missionaries. Pray for stamina for both Tom and Heidi as they handle many issues in the office and are perpetually short-staffed.
Praise that, while working as a physical therapist at a fistula center, God allowed Kate to help train Nigerian healthcare workers in basic pelvic PT topics, collaborate with other therapists working with fistula, and begin work on informational videos to be shown in the clinic. Pray that all these will prove to have long-term benefits for the people of Nigeria – and even Kenya and Niger. Pray for grace as she says many good-byes, strength as she transitions back to the US and wisdom as to how and when God would have her return to Nigeria.
Praise for the many great years of ministry the Shephard family has had in Nigeria. Praise for the step of obedience the Shephards are taking to stay in the US after this term and that God has provided a job, house and vehicle when they do. Pray that their time in Thailand for counseling and transition coaching will be exceptionally valuable. Pray for wisdom regarding schooling for their children and grace to transition well. Pray for opportunities to share about their time in Nigeria and for avenues to continue serving while based in the US.
Praise for a good semester for both Kevin and Alexis. Pray for God’s favor upon a student-initiated ministry of creating Hausa-language audio resources for the far north. Pray that Alexis’ students will fully grasp the information on the control of communicable diseases and be able to use it to protect themselves, their families and their communities. Pray that the Stokes have stamina to finish the semester and mark final exams. Pray also for a smooth trip to the U.S. this summer to connect with family and friends and to get some needed rest and renewal.
Praise that last year 77 water wells were dug in communities with scarce clean water. Praise that later the gospel was also proclaimed in each village resulting in tens of thousands, most from another major religion, hearing it and several thousand placing their faith in Christ. Pray that the goal of 99 wells this year will be achieved. Pray for needed funds right now, since it is the height of the dry season, many are out of water and people in the north are very open to the gospel. Pray also for a recent convert whose testimony has brought many to Christ, but at present has had to flee into the brush due to threats from his enemies. Pray that he will be found by believers and protected.
Praise for the work God is doing in Nigeria through two ministries with which the Abts have invested much time. Pray for two ladies who are new Christians to be protected, and pray for those who are watching the changes in them and are asking them about their new-found faith. Pray for the Abts, who have been delayed from returning due to lack of support. Pray that this time will result in spiritual growth, healing for Toby as he has a hip replacement on March 27, and continuing adjustment for their son despite missing his friends and home in Jos, Nigeria.
Praise for a smooth transport for the Wildmans and the truck carrying their goods as they moved to their new location. Praise also for the help the missionary community and their Nigerian friends gave during the move – both in Jos as they packed and in their new location. Praise for divine appointments that have helped them establish new relationships, and pray as they follow up on them. Pray for wisdom as they explore ministry possibilities over the next weeks and for strength and good health for the SIM team in this location.
Praise for the work Lenny has done creating SIM Nigeria’s Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Vimeo accounts. Pray for him as he adds content to these social media pages to provide maximum exposure for the mission. Praise also for his work revising and publishing two brochures that the mission uses for recruitment of short-term and medical missionaries. Pray for strength for him as he travels across Nigeria to produce videos featuring educators, administrators and students at four theological colleges to highlight opportunities where SIM missionaries can serve.
Praise that Steven and Kari Jo seek to love, serve and obey God with all of their hearts and are willing to follow Him wherever He leads, even when it doesn’t make sense or the future is unclear. Pray that they would have the strength to continue to obey as they sense the Lord calling them to return to the States at the end of this term. Pray for grace to finish well, transition their roles to others and seek God’s direction for their next steps. Pray they would sense God’s presence through it all.
