Praise for the first “Teach to Make a Difference” training workshop held in August. Pray that these would be used to equip teachers. Pray for the Wildmans as they spend several days in Jos for training and rest before returning north. Pray that God would produce fruit in Randy’s discipleship group and Adena’s English as a Second Language classes.
Praise for a good end to the semester for Kevin and Alexis, a wonderful two-month home assignment in the States and a good trip back to Kagoro. Pray that they will be a blessing to their students as they teach and disciple them. Pray that the electricity will be restored on their campus as they have been without for six-plus weeks. Pray also that Alexis’ tiredness and nausea will improve and that they find foods she can eat in Nigeria while pregnant.
Praise for the unity the Jessuruns are experiencing with other members of the SIM Nigeria team and for expanding ministries and partnerships within the organization. Pray for energy and perseverance as they serve despite a lack of administrative personnel to accomplish all the tasks that need to be done. Pray for Tom as he meets with the Emir of a northern city on August 24 to encourage him toward justice and peace in his state where SIM has a ministry team.
Praise that the Shellys have been cleared medically to return to Nigeria on July 26. Pray that their health will remain stable as they continue their teaching ministry at the seminary in Kagoro. Pray that a Ph.D. holder in Intercultural Studies (Missions) will join the teaching team. Pray also for Nigeria, since more than 6000 Christians have been killed so far in 2018. Pray especially that a Christian teenager who was kidnapped by militants in February will stand firm in her faith and be released
Praise for the Miles’ work to promote “Family Based Care” rather than orphanages, since most children in them are not true orphans but victims of severe poverty. Pray for the leadership as it seeks to establish a program where children will stay within a family and have a Christian school to attend. Pray for the five Christian teachers they have hired and for the three weeks of special training for them planned for August. Pray for sponsors needed to finance this training.
Praise for Egbe Hospital and the revitalization work of the past few years where it has been rebuilt, medical equipment updated and other changes made. Pray for the many patients who come for medical help and also hear the gospel. Pray for missionary personnel needed as a new phase of the Revitalization Project begins, focusing on rebuilding the School of Nursing and Midwifery on the hospital campus. Pray especially for the needs for a chief hospital administrator, maintenance/construction manager, surgeon, dentist, ophthalmologist, nursing director and IT specialist.
Praise that Gay Lynn has enjoyed good times of visiting her supporters and churches on home assignment. Pray for her since her return to Nigeria has been delayed due to a serious health issue. Praise for encouraging test results, and pray for effective treatment, a rapid recovery and a timely return to Nigeria. Praise that construction for a Vocational Training Center for teenage girls, including a secondary school has begun. Pray for the extensive needed funds.
Praise for a renewed focus to reach the lost in northern Nigeria from the new ECWA (Evangelical Church Winning All) president. Pray for a large group of short-termers being taken to the north for a vision trip and village medical outreach June 27-July 1. Pray that some will become long-term missionaries. Pray for stamina for both Tom and Heidi as they handle many issues in the office and are perpetually short-staffed.
Praise that, while working as a physical therapist at a fistula center, God allowed Kate to help train Nigerian healthcare workers in basic pelvic PT topics, collaborate with other therapists working with fistula, and begin work on informational videos to be shown in the clinic. Pray that all these will prove to have long-term benefits for the people of Nigeria – and even Kenya and Niger. Pray for grace as she says many good-byes, strength as she transitions back to the US and wisdom as to how and when God would have her return to Nigeria.
