Praise that God is at work among refugees and using Doug and Cora’s efforts as part of that. Praise that He is using social media to generate interest in and response to the gospel. Pray that God would work in the hearts of those who see videos and web pages made for these refugees and cause them to respond to Him. Praise for all the opportunities that Doug has to tutor children and college students. Pray that Doug would be able to communicate clearly the gospel of Jesus when opportunity arises.
Praise for the ministry of the Voice of New Life, and the numbers of people throughout East Africa who listen regularly. Pray that those who listen will respond to the gospel message, and others are encouraged in their faith. Pray for finalization of the long process to bring two committed and experienced workers to join the VNL staff in Ethiopia. Pray for strength, wisdom, and endurance for the only worker in the VNL office, and pray for improving health for him. Pray that God will provide adequate funds for the operating budget for this shortwave radio broadcast project.
Praise that Jamie was able to give a refugee friend a Bible in his own language – and that the man is reading it! Pray that he would continue to read it and that God would dismantle his confidence in another religion. Pray that the Christmas party Angel and a colleague had for their ESL students would open the door for future conversations about Christ. Pray for courage and connections for Jamie as he sells camel milk in a local ethnic café where little English is spoken. Pray that God would establish his church among the 60,000 East African refugees living in the area.
Pray for the three “Friends of Mslms” groups planning to host their friends in the Elgin, IL, area for a Thanksgiving Dinner on November 19. Pray for God’s guidance and that Jesus will be exalted as they share the history of Thanksgiving, and some personal “thanks” stories and pray with and for these friends at the dinner. Pray for wisdom for Ginny and the Friends groups as they plan other joint meetings and events. Pray also for a Perspectives missions class on November 14 in Pecatonica, IL, and for the Lord to equip more workers for reaching Muslims for Christ.
Praise that Angel has completed the process of becoming a missionary with SIM and will continue teaching English to adult immigrants and refugees while sharing in ministry opportunities with Jamie. Pray for them as they connect this summer with many ministry partners across the US. Pray also for additional needed prayer and financial supporters. Pray that God will establish His church among the group of 60,000 refugees in the Seattle area. Pray also for some important meetings this summer with refugee individuals and families, and for the development of relationships from serving camel milk at a new farmer’s market.
Praise that one listener group to Voice of New Life (VNL) within an East Africa country has linked three friends with VNL staff so that they are now listening to the broadcast, following Jesus, and inviting friends to listen. Pray that 15 listeners who are new believers and have now emigrated to a number of other countries, including the US, will be willing and able to link with local Christians. Pray for VNL program production of a new series addressing issues of the listening community. Pray also for committed workers from this country now living in Ethiopia to help the VNL broadcast team there.

Pray for church members who dedicated July and August to sharing the gospel daily. Pray that many will come to Christ and each church member will engage in discipling one or more people. Pray that thousands will hear the gospel as they share August 20 in the Convoy of Hope event. Pray also for Sunday who will encourage and train people at a church in Tel Aviv, Israel, October 5-15, and then teach a course at the seminary in Kagoro, Nigeria, October 17-31.
Praise that the four Perspectives classes on world missions that Ginny has been involved in teaching and the recent Culture ConneXions team seminar have all gone well in answer to prayer. Praise also for the interest and attendance at the four-week teaching series she and a brother from Albania have been conducting on the two campuses of her church each week on another religion, titled “Why Should I Care.” Pray for the final session this Sunday, April 24. Pray that the Lord will stir the hearts of believers for the lost people God is bringing to the US.
Praise for a year-long study on spiritual formation they took in their church, which has emphasized God’s invitation to intimacy with Him. Pray for Jon as he resigns from teaching English as a Second Language at the community college to concentrate on mentoring the young adult refugee community. Pray that the Lord will lead him each step of the way, and pray that many young adults who came here as children of refugees would experience God’s work in their lives. Pray that they will not fall prey to the negative influences that abound among those who are discouraged and hopeless.
