Praise for David and Ginny’s 35 years of faithful ministry in Botswana. Pray for them as they prepare to return to the States permanently in November. Pray that they would finish well as they deal with their possessions and say goodbye to those in their village. Pray for wisdom and grace as they are taking steps to promote continued ministry in Ukhwi and translation in !xoon after they leave.
Praise for the opportunity Heidi had to travel to Ukwi to spend time with fellow-missionaries and to be refreshed. Praise also that she was able to communicate a message of hope at a funeral service in the local language and had confirmation of being understood by a woman who talked with her about her message. Pray for wisdom for her as she meets with a social worker regarding a difficult situation in a family over the upcoming birth of a baby to a teenager. Pray that a Christian couple Heidi knows that are longing to adopt a baby might be able to because of this situation.
Praise for progress on producing 63 short portions of scripture, mostly narratives, which give a skeletal overview of the story of God’s Word and focus on an oral telling of the story not needing electronic devices. Pray also for the completion of the translation of Luke by the end of the year. Praise also that a long-awaited part for the plane has arrived so that it is usable once again. Pray that their truck can be repaired well. Pray for health and strength for both Dave and Ginny, who have both experienced challenges.
Praise for a series of answered prayers, including Heidi’s Residence Permit which was approved through 2021, plus the renewal of her foster care permit for two more years. Praise also for permission to use a spelling book, Spelling You See, including a PDF file so she can print off worksheets for use with the children who come to her house, and pray they will learn well using this tool. Pray for one family who experienced the death of four members trapped in their house as it burned to the ground. Pray also that her neighbor will be thwarted in her efforts to gain more training in becoming a “prophetess” in the occult.
Praise for three men from a church in Wisconsin who have come to help with a !Xoon music workshop. Dave writes, “They have truly lightened our load and have been a real encouragement, as have . . . the couple heading up the workshop.” Praise that it is going well. Pray for the Longs as they seek medical help for Ginny in Johannesburg, South Africa, as soon as an appointment can be made, hopefully in early June. Pray for wisdom for doctors to find the right way to deal with a serious physical challenge she is facing. Pray for peace for them both as they await the timing of this trip and the treatment decisions that will be needed.
Praise for the opportunity the Longs have had to vacation in the US over the Easter break. Praise also that Flying Mission in Botswanna now has a plane approved to fly once again. Pray for an upcoming !Xoon music workshop in which musicians will bring their traditional instruments, be exposed to the Bible in their language and challenged to compose music proclaiming and celebrating the gospel. Praise for full monthly support for the Longs, and pray for $7000 needed to purchase a more reliable vehicle upon their return.
