Another amazing week here in Paraguay, and just another day where I cannot imagine leaving this place and these people. But, I guess that’s a good thing. I’m constantly learning how to rely on God through every and all situations and let me tell ya, it’s been a great place to be! Well, this week and the rest of my time here is pretty much traveling all over the place. This week was youth camp so here is a little bit about what we did and what I’ve been learning!
Camp: The camp was in a town called Caazapau and was really fun and had lots of games, sermons, small groups, and free time! The time was fun as although I could not speak a whole lot of Spanish, some of the girls ran with it and learned some basic English phrases to say to me. For instance, one camper kept saying “Thank you! Thank you! I love you!” about every time she saw me and it was absolutely hilarious. Lots of translation from Susy to help me communicate and continue to learn. What was really awesome was the missionary that gave the sermons was from the United States and by the last day I was able to understand the whole sermon except for a few words. One thing I am really learning from this trip is the importance of prayer and how powerful that is. If I don’t understand what’s going on in small group? Start praying. If the sermon is way over my head? Pray. I have this new found love for prayer and it’s awesome. Talking to my Father in heaven who cares about my struggles and who I can praise when things are going so well, that’s my favorite part of the day.
What I learned: To be completely honest the first day of camp the thought that went through my head was “okay Abby, just survive this week. It’s only a few days” as soon as I got there I realized being integrated into conversational Spanish is a whole lot different from teaching Spanish and learning specific words. Although it was difficult and it probably should have felt a lot harder considering the circumstances, I still found so much joy in the moments. What is really cool is I am constantly being thrown into situations where I have to say “Alright Lord, I really cannot do this without You. Help me.” And ya know what? He ALWAYS comes through. I really enjoyed this week and am constantly amazed by how much joy I have in situations that can sometimes be less than ideal. I love this place so much and God continues pulling at my heart that this is where I am suppose to be. It is absolutely undeniable through so many situations. Praise Him because I could absolutely NOT be doing anything without the peace in my heart!
