In the SIM family, those serving 8 weeks-12 months are called “Short Term Associates (STAs).” Here's what to expect as you move towards STA missionary service with SIM…
Begin the application process by completing a short Initial Inquiry online. An SIM staff member will contact you to hear your passion for ministry and personally guide you through the rest of the process, including the completion of an online pre-application and full application.
Note: The application process doesn’t proceed until we have received your completed Medical History Form and References. One of the references must be from a pastor or ministry leader. All application materials are handled confidentially in accordance with the Authorization for Release of Information which will be sent for your signature.
Once your application is submitted, you will be able to track your progress online through the remainder of your process using the same logon and password you defined for your application.

SIM is a field-driven ministry, which means all of our placements are defined and approved by the country administrations where we serve. If both you and we sense God is leading, a member of our Selection Department will work diligently with you and your prospective country of service to firm up your plans culminating in a Placement Agreement signed by the field of service.
You’ll communicate with your church, family, and friends the work God is calling you to do and enlist those who will provide prayer and financial support as you serve cross-culturally.
Trained SIM staff will help you obtain airline tickets and any necessary visa. Note: In most cases, the tax-deductible donations covering the cost of your trip must be received by the SIM USA Donor Care Department prior to purchasing your flights.
STA Orientation is a two-and-a-half-day training at our SIM USA campus located in Charlotte, North Carolina. During your stay, you’ll meet with staff and receive practical help to get you started in your field service. Scheduled orientation dates for 2012:
Upon arrival in-country, SIM personnel will orient you to your new surroundings and ministry. You will work alongside or be mentored by a career missionary.
Not only will you have an end-of-term debrief on the field, you'll also have one at SIM USA in Charlotte upon your return. This enables you to be seen by our medical staff, begin processing your experiences, and start getting over jet lag before going home.
