Praise & Prayer

Posted on September 8, 2010

JIM & MINAH ANDRILINAS (Ethiopia) – Praise for the safe arrival of most of the teachers for Bingham Academy’s new school year, for financial support, for good health and for a simple move into a quiet apartment on campus. Pray for various employees who must retire with minimal pensions and no social security, for adjustments and friendships as new folks arrive on campus, and for travel safety in unpredictable road traffic.

GEORGE & KATHY CAIL (TEN3) – Praise for the safe arrival of daughter, Karissa, in Kenya with final destination Doro, Sudan. Pray as the family adjusts to her leaving. “TEN3 is moving into high gear as we prepare for future workshops to follow up the workshops we recently held in Nigeria. We are planning a couple of workshops in the U.S. in March, then four follow-up workshops in Nigeria in April.” Pray for efficient use of time, provision of the right people and resources to get the job done.

LOUIS & ANNE CARTER (USA) – Praise for a successful trip to Kenya and Tenwek Hospital, for great opportunities to teach and perform surgery, especially cleft palate surgery, showing God’s love to severely deformed children and their parents in a setting where they hear the gospel daily. Pray for all the details of their upcoming trip to Papua New Guinea in two weeks, a trip that has been extremely difficult to plan and execute. Pray for patience and trust.

FRED & GRACE ELY (SIM USA office) – Fred attended a gathering of about 20 mission agencies to share and brainstorm on ways to recruit more missionaries to work among the remaining 220 unengaged M’m people groups with a population of at least 100,000. Pray that the Lord will raise up people to work effectively among these who need the gospel. Pray also for Grace as she works closely with the managers of the retirement village in Sebring, Florida to provide the best care possible for our current retirees and for those to come.

JOHN & JEANETTE COREY
(USA/Retiree) – Praise that the MP3 project, designed to provide sound theological training, is growing. Demands for the player are increasing, and many pastors and leaders are becoming more serious about reading the Word and teaching it, as recently reported from Liberia and Sierra Leone. Pray for the movement this project is creating. Pray also for John as he and three others spend a period of six weeks abroad, holding Bible conferences in eight to nine churches in East Russia.

BOB & CAROL GIVENS (Paraguay) – Praise for significant answers to prayer, including financial donations to help with their shortfall, two individuals to teach English, for Canadian coworkers who are returning to Paraguay, and for church leaders who will carry on the ministry as the Givenses leave for home assignment. Pray that while in the US they will be effective in stimulating interest in missions and redefining the next phase of their ministry in Paraguay.

GEOFF & CONNIE GRIFFITH (USA) – Praise for safe travel and for the 40 students who attended their Seminar on Church Planting Movements in Mongolia and for the 20 students who attended the SIM Korea Training Institute near Seoul. Pray for wisdom for Geoff as he speaks at a conference in Thailand August 31-September 8, and in South Africa at Union Bible Institute Sept. 22–Oct. 27.

GEORGE JANVIER (Nigeria) - George meets with church leaders in their home areas and gets their advice on where to place a Bible college graduate for two years as a church planter. Pray for him as he currently works with 42 church plants. Pray also as he seeks to influence future pastors and missionaries at the seminary for the important work of church planting.

AMANDA KING (Ecuador) – Praise for a critical repair done on the truck to keep them safe over very dangerous roads as they revisited a remote area where they had opportunity to minister to children and adults. Pray as she seeks to encourage a church lacking leadership, as the missionaries are on home assignment. Pray also that the church in Gonzanama will continue to grow both numerically and spiritually under the leadership of the Ecuadorian pastor.

JON & JENNIFER (US/Culture ConneXions) - The month of Ramadan is coming to a close this week. “Pray that God would reveal himself in a special way to our friends who are fasting. Pray that this Ramadan God would give M’s an extra hunger and thirst for the righteousness of God.” Pray Christians would have opportunities to share with them about the gospel.

SIM NAMIBIA – Namibia has several needs for personnel. Pray that the Lord will call six individuals/families to fill the needs for church workers/planters, evangelists, medical doctors, school teachers, and theological lecturers.

KENNY & CARLA OVERTON
(Mozambique/Portugal) – Praise for a good adjustment to life in Portugal, for an adequate apartment near their school, and for Portuguese friends who have introduced them to their church. Pray that they will stay motivated in language learning, maintain a balance between family and work, and be a witness to their classmates at the university.

DEBBIE SARDO (Sudan) – Praise that in the four weeks she has been back in Sudan the new compound is almost complete. Pray for the start of a school in Mabaan literacy and for the women who are very excited about learning to read and write their mother tongue. Pray that God will further the work of literacy, the ministry of his Word, and HIV/AIDS awareness.

JEANNE SCYPINSKI (Niger) – Praise for a time of refreshment in Belgium for a month. Pray as she records a transition literacy course prepared to enable people who can read French to transfer that skill to their own language, Zarma. Pray these tools will enable many to read the Scriptures in their mother tongue.

STEVEN & KARI JO SHEPHARD (Nigeria) – After twelve years of medical training, Steve has completed his residency and their family is preparing to serve at Bingham University Teaching Hospital in Jos, Nigeria. Pray for them as they build a prayer and support team and sell their house while Steve does temporary medical work. Pray they can begin their career missionary service early next year.

TIM & MURIEL TEUSINK (Ethiopia) Praise that the 2009-2010 school year ended well at Bingham Academy where Muriel is the Teacher-Librarian and at the three theological colleges where Tim taught HIV/AIDS prevention and awareness. Pray for them as the new academic year begins with Tim teaching and training leaders in Protestant and Ethiopian Orthodox theological colleges. Pray for Muriel in her continuing library work at Bingham Academy and as the substitute teaching leader in the new Bible Study Fellowship women’s class in Addis Ababa. Pray also for safety, peace and stability in that part of the world.

SIM USA – Twenty-six individuals will be on the SIM campus September 9-12 for SIM Start – a time to be introduced to the mission and its opportunities for service. Pray for both the guests and staff as they seek to discern together the possibilities of becoming a part of the SIM family.

BECKY WRIGHT (Niger) - Praise God for continued contact with churches that are praying about the possibility of partnering with her. Pray that God would be glorified as she shares her testimony and tells about the ministry with university students in Niger. Pray that the one-time outgoing expenses and monthly support would be provided so she can leave in January.
