We went to Amsterdam to see if we could locate my wife, Yemi’s uncle living there. Yemi had never met him, because during the communist years in Ethiopia, he had to flee for his life when he was still young.
Yemi had a telephone number and tried to call her uncle, but the number was no longer in use. I think she had resigned herself to never finding him, but we prayed that the Lord would somehow lead us to him.
We were in a store in downtown Amsterdam buying a jacket for Yemi, and as we were leaving the store, we noticed that there was a crowd at the entrance to the store. Outside, it was raining cats and dogs and quite a few people had come into the store to get out of the rain.
Yemi and I joined the group, and as we looked at the two gentlemen standing next to us, they sure looked Ethiopian to us. Yemi asked the guy right next to me if they were Ethiopian, and he said, “Yes.” Then she asked his name, and he told her, “Getacho Haileab.” Out of all of the people in Amsterdam, it was her uncle! The very one she was looking for!
We had dinner with him later on that evening, caught up with all that was happening in his life, and found out why he had never returned for his father’s/her grandfather’s funeral, a problem that Yemi had struggled with for many, many years.
Out of all of the stores in Amsterdam, God had put him in front of that particular one, and he was standing right next to us! Praise God for this incredible answer to prayer! Truly God works in mysterious ways and we can always trust Him in every situation!
...how unsearchable are His judgments, and His ways past finding out!
