Pepe, our pastor, and his wife Karina announced two weeks ago that she was pregnant. A few days ago Karina started having complications, and yesterday afternoon around 3pm she miscarried (at 7 weeks). Pepe immediately took her to the hospital -- she didn’t receive medical help until 2am this morning. Debbie was with her for most of that time, until all visitors but Pepe were asked to leave the hospital. But while they were together in the afternoon and evening, Debbie prayed with Karina and read portions of Scripture to her.
At 3am, when Karina was finally back in her hospital room bed after the D&C, deeply discouraged about their loss, the lady in the bed next to her asked, “Are you awake?”
Karina responded somewhat reluctantly, “Yes”. Then the lady asked, “Are you tired?” to which Karina responded, “No.”
The lady got out of bed, wheeled her IV rack over and sat on a chair next to Karina’s bed. “I noticed that they prayed for you and read the Bible to you. Are you a Christian?” She went on to tell Karina that she has wanted Debbie to pray for her, but she didn’t know how to ask. Then she explained how she had messed up so many things in her life, and the only thing she knew for sure was that she needed her sins forgiven. Karina ended up talking with her for two hours about the Lord. Around 5am the lady gave her life to Jesus.
