Pete Bitner’s Knee Injury

Pete and Carolyn Bitner and their two sons work among the Kot*okoli people in a small city in the interior of Togo, West Africa. On June 11th, as Pete was driving to a meeting with church leaders, the front tire on his motorcycle went flat and he had a bad spill while traveling at about 50 mph, seriously injuring his left knee. It was eventually decided that the Bitner family should take an early home assignment for Pete to have knee surgery.

On July 15th, a whole month later, Pete saw a specialist in the United Sates, who did surgery to reattach his patellar tendon as well as to loosen some of the accumulated scar tissue. Here is what they wrote in August after a follow-up visit to Pete’s surgeon: “The surgeon is very pleased with how Pete's knee is healing. He told us how lucky Pete was, that with this type of injury and the circumstances surrounding it, he fully expected infection and trouble with the incision healing.”

“Luck?!?” they continue, “ Well...we know differently! We know that there were, and continue to be, many people praying, and that our God is a Father Who answers the prayers of His children!” Peter & Carolyn Bitner,SIM missionaries from Togo, West Africa
