Help for Today,
Hope for Eternity

What Is SIM?

SIM is a community of God's people who delight to worship Him and are passionate about the gospel, seeking to fulfill the mission of Jesus Christ in the world.

SIM has more than 1,600 active missionaries serving in over 40 countries on 5 continents. We are made up of united organizations that began more than 100 years ago, including Africa Evangelical Fellowship, Andes Evangelical Mission, International Christian Fellowship, and Sudan Interior Mission. Our field ministries work with about 15,250 congregations with about 9 million members and adherents.

While we were preparing this issue of Harvest, I felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude that God has chosen SIM, our partner ministries, and faithful friends as a channel to fulfill the promises of salvation and redemption He made through the prophet Isaiah. Isaiah begins the sixty-first chapter by writing:

"He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted . . ."
God is moving through ministry in China to build a school and library--The Lighthouse Center, which you can read about on here --to shine the hope and promise of Kingdom living. This hope is being sent out in a society that sadly devalues marriage, women, and children because it has drifted away from its ancient roots that revered the family as the foundation of a healthy culture.

"To proclaim freedom for the captives . . ."
How can a pastor preach and teach the full wisdom, comfort, and strength of God's Word if he has nothing to help him understand its deepest meanings? Thankfully, your support enables SIM to provide financial support for partner ministries who are distributing book sets for the Pastor's Library Project to thousands of Ethiopian ministers. These ministers now have the scriptural sources they need to proclaim the freedom of the gospel relevantly and effectively to their growing congregations. Now they can build their churches with the spiritual strength to defend the faith against hollow traditional beliefs and other doctrines that are competing for souls.

"And release from darkness for the prisoners . . ."
The people of the Kushtia region in Bangladesh have, for generations, lived in the spiritual darkness of hopelessness borne of failure and superstition. But God is moving through the SIM-supported Community Development Project to lift farmers and their families out of ignorance by teaching everything from the smallest lessons--such as keeping the seeds from one harvest to plant the next crop--to the deeper spiritual lessons--such as when you "do unto others" as Christ would, you build stronger, healthier communities.

God is using missions and agencies around the world to advance His Kingdom on earth. And thanks to prayers and support of faithful ministry friends like you, SIM is working hand-in-hand with them because, as Isaiah wrote, God has sent us to bring souls to Him by healing lives and building communities.
