While we were preparing this issue of Harvest, I felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude that God has chosen SIM, our partner ministries, and faithful friends as a channel to fulfill the promises of salvation and redemption He made through the prophet Isaiah. Isaiah begins the sixty-first chapter by . . .

Pass It On

Planning for the distribution of your estate at death so that it's in harmony with God's plan of stewardship is one of the most important decisions you will make.

To do so, you need to be informed about such things as income and estate taxes, probate, the use of a will versus a revocable living trust, charitable trusts, and many other complex issues of estate planning.

SIM has a program in place that will help you with your estate planning needs. For more information about this program, please contact Mike Dey by e-mail at mike.dey@sim.org or by phone at (800) 521-6449.
The Church in Africa is growing faster than ministers can be trained to lead it.
The smile spread across the church elder's face as far as it could go. He was recalling the deep spiritual joy he witnessed as African pastors received their first libraries of discipleship and evangelism literature, scriptural analysis tools, and other teaching resources.

"They were just like this! The joy!" exclaimed Dr. Tokunboh Adeyemo, pointing beyond the corners of his own broad smile. "The greatest investment that we can make at this particular hour for the Church in Africa is the investment in these libraries."

Living for Christ in Africa today is strikingly similar to the struggles of the early Church. As more Africans than ever are taking steps toward a personal relationship with Him, the Church in Africa is growing faster than ministers can be trained to lead it.

The situation is critical. In the face of manmade religions, false cults, and the aggressive spread of Islam, pastors lack the biblical resources they need to deepen their own understanding of God's Word.
Without that foundation, church leaders can't teach and preach Kingdom living effectively, which leaves many spiritually immature believers vulnerable to competing doctrines.

Thankfully, the Ethiopia Pastor's Library Project is providing church leaders with the scriptural training and teaching texts they urgently need. These materials help them teach the transformative power of the gospel to their congregations, guide their understanding of His Word, and lead them into deeper, saving relationships with Jesus.

The project comprises a three-day training session each pastor must attend before receiving a book set. The invaluable book sets include the NIV Study Bible (and Concordance) and other Christian literature such as The Church Is Bigger Than You Think, The Africa Bible Commentary, How to Read the Bible for All It's Worth, and a wealth of Christian literature written by African authors.

With God's help, SIM has distributed nearly 6,000 book sets to Ethiopian pastors who have completed the training course and plans to distribute another 5,000. Approximately 10,000 of the sets have been printed in Amharic, the principal language of Ethiopia, enabling the pastors to study the Bible in the language of their thoughts and prayers.

Church leaders who participate in the Ethiopian Pastor's Library Project are required to pay $75--equal to four to six months' salary for most Ethiopians--to cover half the cost of the training sessions and the books. The generosity of faithful friends like you makes it possible for SIM to pay for the rest.

Since 1988, more than 99,000 pastors and church leaders in 36 countries have received book sets and participated in conferences. God is mighty and capable of spreading the truth of His Word throughout Africa and the rest of the world. We are thankful that He is giving us the opportunity to support and provide for our Christian brothers so that we may take part in His work in Africa.

Project 92027

The Sudanese regime has ordered all relief agencies out of the northern part of the country within a year. Please pray that the Southern Sudan Health Project will remain unaffected by the order so it can continue its God-given work.
