While we were preparing this issue of Harvest, I felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude that God has chosen SIM, our partner ministries, and faithful friends as a channel to fulfill the promises of salvation and redemption He made through the prophet Isaiah. Isaiah begins the sixty-first chapter by writing . . .

The smile spread across the church elder's face as far as it could go. He was recalling the deep spiritual joy he witnessed as African pastors received their first libraries of discipleship and evangelism literature, scriptural analysis tools, and other teaching resources.
"They were just like this! The joy!" exclaimed Dr. Tokunboh Adeyemo, pointing beyond the corners of his own broad smile. "The greatest investment that we can make at this particular hour for the Church in Africa is the investment in these libraries." |

For years, Abul Barik and his family scraped by, weighed down physically and spiritually by the crushing poverty that enslaves millions of Bangladeshis in ignorance and humiliation.
But Abul's life began to change when he turned to the Kushtia Community Development Program (CDP). The CDP literacy course taught him to read and write, and then the livestock program gave him a calf, which he raised and sold at the local market. After repaying the CDP for the calf, Abul used the profit to begin a small livestock operation. |

As God reveals His plans in a provincial capital along the Silk Road of China, mission workers are making steady progress in creating a permanent library and classroom where they will serve the Lord and build a stronger community.
"The Father's timing is perfect and sure. Many good things have come together simultaneously, and we can only give Him thanks and praise for opening all the doors in perfect sequential order," reports project manager Jeyne. |

The SIM team serving in Doro as part of Rebuilding Sudan: Nation and Church has recently witnessed many examples of what they describe as "a rich tapestry of God's grace."
These servants of Christ work among the Mabaan people, more than 10,000 of whom returned from exile in 2008. This was a cause of rejoicing, along with some exciting milestones: The adult education students successfully completed their final level; the first class of community health workers graduated and went out to serve; a nutrition village became a life-changing reality; and the long-awaited opportunity to open a clinic came when the army vacated the ruins of SIM's old hospital. |
