Praise for Dave’s opportunity to teach this semester at Nairobi International School of Theology (NIST), as well as teaching a four-week course for missionaries and staff at SIM. As NIST is going through a difficult time, pray for faculty perseverance, wisdom for administrators and financial help for students. Pray also for Sheryl as she fulfills a variety of responsibilities, including visits to The Ark School in a Nairobi slum to tutor children in reading, where only 15% of the students are Christian.
Praise for the connection Chris now has with a network of pastors, and pray for the big missions conference being planned for April in three locations simultaneously. Pray for the pastors who are doing the coordinating and for wisdom for Chris as she works on the program. Praise also that the English ministry in Peru continues to go well with many opportunities for evangelism and discipleship.
Praise for the recent effective three-day workshop training on orality with 21 missionaries from four mission agencies, provided by two trainers from South Africa. Pray that the result will be effective the sharing of Bible stories and applying of orality techniques in reaching oral learners in Paraguay. Pray also for Tom as he meets with other directors in Chiang Mai, Thailand, in March about strategy in missions, and then visits Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and the Philippines the second half of the month to train missionaries and local workers in orality theory and practice.
Praise for their opportunity this week to attend meetings in Phuket, Thailand, sponsored by SIM International, whose purpose is leadership development with an ongoing two-year mentorship program for field leaders. Pray for Fred and Grace as they serve as mentors to SIM Bolivia’s field leader and his wife. Pray for their good health during this trip. Praise also that the church here in Charlotte where Fred serves as Pastor for Missions recently commissioned their first long-term missionaries, Doctors Brian and Rachel Hagler, who left this week to serve with SIM at Kijabe Hospital in Kenya.
Praise for Rosie’s recent invitations to return to Kenya for some week-long seminars to encourage and equip evangelists/pastors in rural areas, with the first seminar the end of April. Pray for her and the many arrangements that need to be made for a stay until around June 17. Pray also for the Spirit’s guidance in preparing lessons in such a short time, and for needed finances.
Praise for projects Allen has been involved in for the past several months to broaden SIM partnerships with other mission agencies to provide quality pre-field preparation for missionaries. Pray for the most recent partner, Global Frontier Mission, whose five-month training program provides exposure to people from 54 countries and 90 ethnic groups where SIM missionaries work. Pray for wisdom in pursuing these training partnerships.
Praise for the many gifted health care workers throughout her region. Pray that God would continue to equip them to provide excellent, whole-person care that glorifies Christ. Pray for guidance for Christine as she transitions from her focus on language study and finalizes plans for her medical work. Pray that grace would reach more and more people as Mercy Clinic opens in March in a small village east of where she lives, a project Christine’s team has been working on the past four years.
Praise that Cora has accepted a position to work on the staff of the SIM Retirement Center in Sebring, FL. Pray as they visit Sebring in May to work out job details and inspect a house, and then make plans to move next fall. Pray for Ken who will continue to work as the Technology Manager with TEN3. Praise that in recent months he has been able to implement a very complicated software service for TEN3, called “Salesforce,” which will be used for donation processing and other future possibilities.
Praise that Rick is healing well from surgeries and has received good reports on some other health issues. Pray that they will be able to return to Nigeria in July. Pray for their present ministry involvement in their church, and for Rick as he takes a useful online course from Houghton College. Praise that Nigeria is now Ebola free. Pray for SIM missionaries there who are seeking to minister to some of the over a million persons displaced due to violence. Pray also for peace.
