SIM USAPrayer Requests

Praise that the Nguntas’ Transformational Leadership Course (TLC) went well, and that those present benefited greatly and have promised to mobilize others. Pray for wisdom and funds to implement the revised curriculum this year. Praise that the new ministry of feeding homeless teens and children has begun and is growing, with more than 700 being fed weekly. Pray for other ministry possibilities such as a children’s club, sports and camping ministries, etc. Pray as well for safety and effectiveness in the survey and vision trip among the Moor people in February. Pray also for Carol who is in the US to assist her seriously-ill brother.

Michael & Kelly Reeves (Ecuador)

Praise that the Reeves have been able to complete their first term of missionary service in Loja, joining SIM teammates in ministering to young adults in the area. Praise for their opportunity to represent Jesus as they delivered disaster relief to coastal towns after the April 2016 earthquake. Pray for them as they continue to share the compassion of Christ through Trauma Healing groups in two locations, and for new groups with local facilitators that are now beginning. Pray also for the Reeves’ finances, since they are only at around 60% of their full monthly support needed to return and serve in Ecuador.

Dan & Corrie Linsz (SIM USA)

Praise for the leading of the Lord that has redirected the Linsz family once again to remain for a longer time in the US and for Dan to become the International Support Services Team leader for Sports Friends. Pray that they can find an appropriate house to purchase in the right neighborhood near the SIM headquarters. Pray for Corrie as she homeschools their boys, and pray for stability for the family and continued healing from the traumatic event of Dan’s stabbing in Costa Rica during their language school experience.

Tim & Maureen McAlhaney (Kenya)

Praise for Tim’s opportunity a few weeks ago to accompany a group of students on an outreach in Kilimagodo. Praise that the Lord moved powerfully, with the result that there are now 107 new believers! Pray for Tim as he begins teaching again, the kids who have started back to school and Maureen who will continue work on her research project designed to help expectant mothers. Pray for the McAlhaneys as they prepare for a US home assignment in a few months, and pray for both of their dads who are facing significant health issues.

Anisa Blomquist (Niger)

Praise for God’s provision for the startup of Grâce Académie, a school for girls, and for Anisa’s opportunity to teach them one hour a week, stretching her ability in French. Pray that the seventh-grade students, whom she teaches at Sahel Academy, will mature both academically and spiritually. Praise that they have been involved in outreach to the kids of a village about 20 miles from Niamey, and pray these kids will have ears to hear and understand the gospel. Pray also that the Lord will provide more teachers for Sahel for the next school year.

Praise for evidence of unity in the churches across tribal lines, and for 26 new believers who were baptized in December. Praise also that the Mabaan Bible in its entirety is now en route to Doro! Pray for the new moms’ groups that have started, and that they will be well attended. Pray for continued peace in the country, and for the SIM South Sudan Director as he makes decisions regarding the future of missionaries in Doro. Pray also that the Lord would send more workers to join the team.

Dennis and Coletta Shelly (Nigeria)

Praise that Dennis and Coletta successfully completed teaching their courses at ECWA Theological Seminary, Kagoro (ETSK) this semester. Praise for the 127 students who received degrees at the 60th ETSK graduation. Pray that God will use these students to advance the gospel throughout Nigeria. Praise for the school’s Provost who has faithfully served two terms and will continue teaching some courses the second semester. Pray for God’s choice of the next Provost to begin his term this month. Pray for refreshment, renewal and vision for the entire SIM Nigeria team as they meet for their Spiritual Life Conference in January.

Osvaldo and Timara Arancibia (Bolivia)

Praise for the blessing and joy Osvaldo and Timara have experienced as they have been serving with SIM in Bolivia these past three years. Pray as SIM Bolivia searches for a National Director and for Osvaldo as he considers accepting a nomination for the role. Pray for them as they work on SIM Bolivia’s strategy for missions mobilization focusing on motivating churches to send Bolivian missionaries to the nations. Pray for Timara as she works through the visa renewal process. Pray also for second and fifth-grade teachers for the Carachipampa Christian School which begins its new school year in February.

Kathy Maenner (Bolivia)

Praise for Kathy’s opportunity during 2017 to serve the missionary family in Bolivia by traveling to each area where they minister. She writes, “I’ve experienced the joy (and sometimes pain) of being involved in the lives of so many of our mission families and the weight of responsibility as being a part of our leadership team.” Pray for Carachipampa Christian School as it forms a new board to run the foundation and the school as required by Bolivian law. Pray also for the search for a new country director for SIM Bolivia and for leadership transitions. Pray also for more teachers for the school and more workers to share the gospel.
